                                      School-Based Counseling and Violence Prevention


                                      What is School-Based Counseling?
                                      This is a program that provides trauma-informed, asset-based early intervention counseling and support for school-age youth by utilizing evidence-based/informed interventions. It uses group and individual counseling to decrease symptoms related to trauma and addressing anger coping deficiencies.

                                      Project VIDA collaborates with three elementary schools in the Pilsen/Little Village Community.

                                      Who is School Based Counseling for?
                                      Anger Coping Group

                                      Children 8-14 years of age exhibiting trouble managing their anger resulting in problems with peers, adults or school performance.  This may include children who are :
                                      1. Easily provoked.
                                      2. Have poor frustration tolerance
                                      3. Have trouble generating positive problem-solving solutions

                                      Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) Trauma Focused Group
                                      This intervention’s main focus is to relieve symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and general anxiety among students exposed to trauma.  It is for children 8-15 years of age who have experienced events such as:
                                      1. Witnessing or being a victim of violence.
                                      2. Being in a natural or man-made disaster. 
                                      3. Being in an accident or house fire.
                                      4. Being physically abused/ injured.
